puzzle 159Ken was a presenter this past summer at the Twin Cities Piano Technicians Guild.   He chronicled and discussed –step by step — the complete rebuilding process of a Steinway B piano that was restored in his shop.  Opening the floor to discussion after the power point presentation prompted good discussion and questions among the Mpls./St.Paul area piano people.   Ken will be a speaker later in the year in Iowa at one of the regional conventions.

The nuts and bolts of a Steinway grand

The nuts and bolts of a Steinway grand

I  was warned about the difficulty of keeping up a “news” section in a website. …..

Belatedly I am adding this great picture of Ken explaining the workings of a Steinway at Lynn Hutchinson’s CANVAS event in Los Angeles, February 17th, 2013.  The concert was the music of Rachmaninoff and an in depth and very unusual look at the instrument delivering that lush, romantic music.

An unforgettable night for all.

A Grand Passion for his work

Ken just was written up in one of our local papers, the St. Croix Valley Press.   Until I can figure out how we link it to the website proper, I’ll brag about him here.   It’s a very nice article.

Nicest part from my side of the business is that the reporter, Julie Kink, saw through to the fact that Ken really does still feel passionate about this work and his care for every instrument.   Not many people in careers for 30 plus years are lucky enough to feel that, to have found something that challenges them and feeds them.

He *has* done his part to leave the world a better place.

Piano dedication service First Lutheran Church Lake City, MN

April 25

Ken attended a dedicatory service this afternoon at First Lutheran Church in Lake City, MN celebrating the refurbishing of their 1917 Mason & Hamlin grand.   This particular piano was donated by the pastor and his wife and then rebuilt for use in the sanctuary.   As proclaimed by parishioners, the piano will “fill our hearts with songs of praise and thanksgiving” for years and years to come.

WCCO's "Finding Minnesota" features Ken Hannah!

We can actually call this “NEWS” since Ken’s work and the piano shop was featured this week on WCCO’s human interest piece entitled “Finding Minnesota”.     Ken’s best comment before the crew came to film:   ” I think this place is better suited to a “radio” show”!    ok, ok, there was cleaning and some tidying to be done.

So interestingly, 2 hours of filming was edited to be a 3 minute segment….!

In all we were honored by their interest and questions.   Angela Davis and her camera man were appreciators of the hard work, the ethic and the significance of piano restoration.
